All of the 450 size motors have two different screw sizes that hold the motor to the mount.
3mm .5 pitch and 2.5mm .45 pitch - standard screws and supplied with the motors.
These are standard screws. 5 to 6mm length is sufficient to mount the motor in most cases.
The X spacing of the screws is 16mm x 19mm - standard. |

Most asked Question:
Q: What is the most versatile motor ?
A: The 450TH can be run in a helicopter, gearbox for gas conversions or lots of thrust and speed, direct drive in Jets and wings and with the swapping of bells for the MID SPEED bell can run larger props. Larger props are ideal to slow the plane/Jet down, tweak everything in with higher thrust and then switch to the speed demon TH High Speed bell with a small prop for high speed. The same can be done on the 450F to convert to 450FT, but the 450F can not run a prop directly bigger than 4 inch's.
Q: What is advantage / disadvantage of 3.17mm over 2.3mm
A: 450TH 3.17mm bell is locked on and can not be removed. 2.3 and 3mm can be removed and replaced with pusher bell or MID KV bell to convert motor to a lower KV.
Q: Why is 3.17mm more popular than 2.3mm
A: Align makes 13T 3.17mm pinions but 2.3 is more popular with 4S flyers on 450TH or 450F motors.
Q: What pinion do I need for T-Rex
A: 13T module 0.5 3.17 or 3.2 mm for 2600 RPM
Q: How do I get best of both worlds
A: Buy the 2.3mm 450TH and purchase or as us for a 2.3 to 3.17mm (1/8) conversion tube at Tower Hobbies I have some brass and aluminum. Drop me a note and I'll include one with your order. Then you can remove the bell and replace with MID SPEED Pusher for a Wing or put this motor in a gearbox for 3D on a 3 pound plane.
Q: Compared this to another motor ?
A: Mega 16/15/3 - ours is lighter and most say more powerful, change the bell and you get a 16/15/5 comparable motor.

A: T-Rex guys are going nuts on this motor. Jet guys love it for high speed. Wing guys who love adrenaline. Large planes geared for over 3 lbs of thrust, sport flyers who want to kick but with speed and thrust geared. Change to a MID SPEED bell and reduce KV to 1700 for pylon racers, and 7 or 8 inch props direct drive. 450TH on it's native High Speed bell is ideal on a 5 inch prop. Q: Why 3mm vs 3.17mm ?
A: Ahhh - I thought you'd never ask. The 450TH 3.17mm motor is very popular for heli's. But the 3.17mm 450TH bell is locked since it has a 3mm axle into the bearing. If you intend to ever fix or change the bell on your 3.17mm heli motor - the 3mm version with a 3mm pinion will offer you more options. Run it in a heli - change the bell and run it in a gearbox, direct drive on a jet or pusher on a jet.

A: .5 modulus is 50.8 pitch and is not an exact fit for our 48 pitch pinions. Many have used out 48 pitch pinions in their .5 modulus helicopters and they work well. If you need 8T, 9T, 110T you need to use the 48 pitch - as far as I can find there are no 8T, 9T pinions at 0.5 modulus. These work well on 0.5 modulus helicopters and are used by many on high speed motors in helis. |

Q: Will Motor Max motors work in Helicopters ?
A: Yes - but you can not shut off the Low Voltage Cut off. So if you run your batteries to the end the motor will run between mid and high RPM when LVC hits. I use motor max ESC's in all my heli's but set a timer on my transmitter to tell me when to land.
Q: Would you use this on other genres.

Our intitial version of this mount had a thin motor mount and bent on a crash. This version has a thicker wall that is much stronger. The Spur gear is stronger with deeper teeth for longer life Use a little loctite on the pinion and add more thrust to your high speed motors. All 300, 400 and 450 size motors fit this gearbox - BUT the 500's do not.

Same technique as 3.5 below except feed the wire half into the 2.4mm connector and hold the solder tip on the end of the connector and the wire. Feed in the solder so it flows into the hole and on the wire. Push the wire into the hole. Hold the wire a couple inches up the wire with your hands. In about 10 seconds at a solder setting of 500-600 you should feel the heat driving up the wire. Grab a wooden stick and hold the wire and connector together and remove the solder tip. Count to 10 and add heat shrink.

In about 10 seconds at a solder setting of 500-600 you should feel the heat driving up the wire. Grab a wooden stick and hold the wire and connector together and remove the solder tip. Count to 10 and add heat shrink. |

All brackets now include 8mm long 3mm .5 pitch screws for mounting motors.
These L Brackets are ideal for wings and jets that run on the rear of a plane. They are very strong and act as a heat sink extending the life of your motor.
Install on a firewall in the front of a plane, attached to a motor behind the firewall, to act as a perfect heat sink and to strengthen the firewall.
Q: I mount my motor as a pusher, why are the bevelled screw holes seem to be on the wrong side.
A: Actually only when you mount the motor inside the L do you need the bevelled screw holes. They are there to counter sink flat head screws and not interfere with a prop adaper. In pusher mode (mounting on the outside of the L) pan head screws will not interfere with your prop adapter. We don't bevel both sides since that would weaken the screw holes. |

For all the direct drive motors with 3mm axles - this is a very nice Collet. The bore does not go all the way through the aluminum shaft, so it is stronger than if it had. Two lock screws for balanced locking of the axle.
I had older collets that had screws all the way through and stopped selling them since they broke easily - these are stronger, but do not over tighten. |

Propellors
10 cent tour of props: First number is diameter, second is pitch. Diameter provides thrust, pitch provides speed. Higher number increases each. Increase both and it will also increase the amp draw from your battery. You can trade between the three Thrust, Speed, Amps. When comparing two motors account for the KV (RPM of the motor at 1 volt). A higher KV motor runs faster - so in planes direct drive the 400DF will run smaller props and higher speed than the 400F. Our 450, 500, 550 motors can provide excellent thrust and speed. |

A: Yes - the 2.3mm bells all have 3mm axles turned down to 2.3mm for pinion mounting
on the 500 size motors the 3.17 tractor and 4mm pusher bells are interchangeable.
Q: I have a 400DH and want to mount a propellor for use in an airplane
A: This would be very very fast and require to small a prop, or an EDF to be effective. Change to a Mid Speed bell and convert your 400DH to a 400DF.
Q: Can I convert a 400DF, 450T, 450FT, 450XT, 500T to a lower speed motor ?
