This motor is for those that like extreme speed, versatility for Planes, Jets, Wings and Helis. It can handle higher amps than the 400F and is faster, but takes more amps to provide that extra speed. I use this direct drive in a 48" EPP Wing and ElectraJet.
Specifications
Max Current: 20 Amps.
KV: 3000
Weight: 46 grams
Shaft Diameter: 2.3mm or 3mm
pusher and tractor (puller) formats.
Mount holes: standard 16.5 & 19.5
Direct drive for a bullet or geared in standard 400 gearbox.
AUW 18.5 oz, Tanic 3S 2220 Narrow pack, 4.75x4.75 APC (Have run a number of props from 5.7x3 to 4.5x4.1) I've run the AXI on it, 7x7 Prop and it has plenty of vertical, but not near as fast.
Vinnie, just wanted to send you some pictures of a Zagi I built with your motor. The 400df exceeds my expectations and I'm glad I chose it for my wing.
CUSTOMER Photos and Information on the 400DF Motor
I am receiving so much information from happy customers on this motor, I have decided to break this page out to enable the technical 400DF page to be displayed without overseas customers having to wait for photos to load. You can still get to the technical page by clicking on the picture of the motor above.
If you have photos or video you'd like to submit for posting, please email to Info@JustGoFly.com. Large files can be sent through http://www.JustGoFly.com I need you to say :
1) that I have permission to post your photo/video.
2) Permission to post your email address, or not.
3) Your name or online handle
4) Videos and photos should have complete setup information on plane - Prop, Battery, Plane, Weight, and anything else you'd like to post.
5) A statement explaining your experience with the motor in your plane.
400DF Motor for Direct Drive, Gearing or Heli's
400DF on a Wing: I run this motor in a Wing and it is amazing ! It has similar stats as the Mega 16/15/3 but an ounce lighter. The 16/15/3 also can handle 30 amps and this motor is limited to 20 amps. I recommend a 5.7 x 3 prop for this motor. I've been running a 5x4 apc prop and it pulls around 22 amps, and is amazingly fast. Here is a on a 5.5x2.5 APC prop.
Warning - this is a small wing killer without re-enforcement. Also you will need very good cells to run a high pitch prop as you can see from the amp draw posted below.

Customer Aluminum L Bracket:
Some customers have stated that they needed something to mount the motors to Wings. Since I fly wings and know how frustrating it is to have something that is flimsy or bends I had light weight aluminum brackets made up. They are very strong and can not be bent with your hands. The one here is drilled out and the 400DF mounted with a 5.5x3 apc prop.
Size: 3" long, 1 " wide, 1" high 80 thousands (2mm) thick and weight of 28 grams.
These brackets require drilling for mounting the motor. I use the AXI mount as a guide to drill the holes. You may wish to shorten the L bracket. It cuts easily with a band saw.

Before - I was flying my Microjet with a multiplex 480/6D brushless. It was a good setup, but was too heavy, so I started looking for something very light but very powerful. The 400DF met all those requirements, and on top of that, Vinnie was very helpful to get the right setup. I guess my next upgrade will be the 450, but I am still working on that!
Axi Style Mount for front mount of motor, or L bracket for rear mount.
Modified L bracket to have slots to hold the zip ties and motor mounted as pusher for a Jet or Wing.
Weight - 60 Grams as shown. (Gold connectors, Bracket, 2 screws and 400DF motor).
Vinnie's Projeti - work in progress. 1/64 ply support for rear and L bracket with slots for zip ties. Should be a screaming plane !
Nov 1, 09 Update - I flipped the L mount 180 degrees, mounted a 550TH pusher 6x4 apc e 3S, and hit 130 mph. 4S 5x5 was ridiculous speed. Projeti was glassed, with high torque digital servos. I am LOVEING IT !
"Well just thought I would write back on how the motors are doing for me.
I love them they work GREAT."
Craig's home made Wing !
Forrest ordered two 400DF's for his TwinJet. I am really excited about this, since I never thought to mount two of those monsters on one plane. He wants to put a CF prop on each motor since each prop is measured at 102mph. While waiting for the CF props to come in I sent him two of the conservative ones to get him flying - 5.5x2.5. He reports the following:
Can you say 84.4mph in level flight. These motors are the MEANEST yet!!!!.If you have the need for speed and want straight up out of sight,JustGoFly with twin 400DF's.But you know one would be just fine.Like babies, twin's can be a hand full. Not bad MPH for a 5.5x2.5 prop.

Feb 26 - update From Forrest:
"The 4.5x4.1 was the ticket. 98.2mph level flight, and would you believe I flew the speed of the foam at a whopping 153.7 in a 10 to 20 deg. according to the GPS. dive to its death. It ripped one of the ailerons clean off and was just hanging on by the control wire on the servo, which put it into a spin to its death. It was so cool!!!!! Holy cow FAST!
I will be ordering a new one today."
March - Forest is a busy man !
Here is a conversion of a 3 Pound Great Planes Super Sport from .40 gas to electric. He's using a 400DF geared 3.89 with our Motor Max gearbox and an APC 11x7 prop. He said most of the video was at half throttle. She flys really nice.

I've had some nice fast flights with the 400DF 3s 1300 Lippo and Gunther prop the good news is it seems to be working nothing is hot or barely warm for that matter..I don't know how fast its going but it looks pretty fast to me.
